The Best Giant Schnauzer Crate Size
When you are shopping for dog crates you will find that they come in many different shapes and sizes and are generally constructed of plastic or wire or a combination of the two.
The ideal crate should be 3-4 inches taller and longer than your pet and large enough for the animal to stand, turn around and lay down comfortably. If you give your pet any more space than this he may potentially use the crate as a toilet area.
This style of crate is constructed of metal with a plastic liner and securable slide bolts. Depending on the crate, some are built with stronger metal making them less likely to bend over time. These have great ventilation on all four sides and the top. This also makes it easier for your pet to see their surroundings.
You have the option of either a single or double-door and some are equipped with a removable divider for your still growing puppy through life stages to adult.
The liner is easily removed from the bottom portion and cleaning is made simpler. They can be a bit heavy but, fold flat for easy storing and transporting.
This type of crate is generally lighter in weight. They are constructed of plastic with a metal door(s) and some have a top door entry. The ventilation is not all that great but, could be helpful to pets who like more privacy and a cozy setting.
Since these are made mainly from plastic, the material is more destructible then other options. This style of crate is harder to clean though, they do break down into the top and bottom portion for storing.
Airlines do require a more dependable plastic crate for shipping your pet and this may be something to consider.
Petmate Sky Kennel, 28-Inch
What I like about these: This crate is approved for air travel. USA made and constructed of quality heavy-duty material. This is perfect sized, even a little roomy, for an 8-week-old giant schnauzer puppy.
-We use this same crate for the durability and strength it provides for shipping our client family puppies.
MidWest Wire Dog Crates
The MidWest dog crates include their ‘Life Stages’ and ‘Ultima Pro’ Series, which we prefer and depend on for the durability. They are easy to assemble and fold flat for storing or transporting. All have the divider panel included for pets during house training. These carry a one-year warranty.
– We use these same crates for our Giants to sleep in and use at their leisure. Though rarely crated, they do prefer their own space.
MidWest Life Stages, 30-Inch
What I like about these: This crate has great visibility for any puppy traveling by car, lessening their chances for those who may get car sickness.
These are great starters because large breeds such as the Giant Schnauzer will grow quickly, and you will need to move up in size sometime in the nearer future.
MidWest Life Stages, 42-inch
• Size: 42” L x 28” W x 31” H inches
• Single Door
What I like about these: The 42-Inch crate is just about perfect for a 5-month-old Giant Schnauzer puppy. Within 7 more months, your Giant Schnauzer will be just about to their adult height but, will fill out over the next 2-3 years.
This crate provides the adjustable divider that is not included with all wire crates. If you want something like this for an 8-week-old puppy, having the divider makes that possible while minimizing potty accidents. Dogs really don’t care to sleep where they mess. The divider gives you the ability to adjust the size for the right amount of space your puppy needs.
If your adult giant will be crated for periods of time, the 48-inch and 54-inch crates are a better option for room to sit comfortably without their head touching the top. This is typically dependant on the sex of your Giant Schnauzer considering males can easily be 20 pounds difference in weight and up to 4 inches taller than females.
MidWest Life Stages, 48-inch
What I like about these: These have more room if your pet will be crated while you are away. The height is right sized for an adult Giant Schnauzer female. This crate includes the divider panel and is handy for life stages from puppy to adult.
